A camera that records your entire life! Crazy – this reminds me of the movie Memento…and Banksy’s CCTV

Just saw this article on a camera that basically records your daily life.  Apparently it was created by Microsoft Research for Alzheimer patients to help jog their memory by providing historical photos of people they met and places they have been – very similar to Guy Pearce’s character in the movie Memento who needed polaroids to recreate the recent past.

Now this camera, called a SenseCam, is being put into production for people who want to automatically document their daily lives. The camera is motion activated and takes snapshots (not video yet), and has the capacity to take 30,000 snaps.   Craziness….a little Memento picture and some Banksy to set the mood.

Another reason that newspapers & traditional news media are suffering – @craignewmark of Craigslist

Filed under: Uncategorized — busterbuster @ 7:07 pm

I was reading a throught provoking piece from Craig Newmark of Craigslist, and was thinking that in addition to the normally cited reasons (internet, cost) maybe another reason that traditional media sources, like newspapers, continue to decline is because of the breach of trust caused my recent missteps by the mass media, who all seem to engage in groupthink and entertainment, rather than in critical thinking, questioning and reporting.  Great excerpt below from the article.

I for one was also surprised to see Wolf Blitzer getting shamed and humiliated on Jeopardy! – maybe he was having a bad day, but this guy who delivers important news should be a lot smarter.  I know personally that after the reporting on 9/11, I am a whole lot more suspicious of whether I am getting the entire story from the traditional media.

"Many of us feel that professional news curation, editing, failed us deeply…An increasingly media savvy online public sees that recent major problems involved…the current financial crisis, and also that "weapons of mass destruction" thing…However, the really good journalism was buried, not curated into the front pages, and then, infrequently if at all repeated. As news consumers, if big news is not prominently displayed, and then repeated, it’s a tree falling in the forest…but the curation model failed to really warn the public about those issues, in any way that genuinely delivered the message."

Of course, mediums such as FoxNews continue to do well despite this trend…shame.

The Kindle Killer? – Plastic Logic QUE Reader

Filed under: Uncategorized — busterbuster @ 1:31 am

I just saw this article in the Wall Street Journal about the Plastic Logic QUE Reader, an unbelievably cool new e-book that is as light as a plastic cutting board, and is one cool piece of technology.

I was fortunate enough to get a hands-on demo at the Founders Forum Event earlier this year, and I ws blown away at the Plastic Logic Reader’s simplicity, lightweight design and durable construction (no glass, no screen!) – you can drop this thing, and nothing happens.  Its super light and the quality of the image was superb, and the touchscreen interface was great.  The only thing that’s more unbelievable, is the fact that the backers of Plastic Logic have invested over $200million in the development of the product – wow!

Check out the demo:

From the recent press release:

”Extra thin, lightweight and wireless-enabled, QUE is the size of an 8.5 x 11 inch pad of paper, less than a 1/3 inch thick, and weighs less than many periodicals…but it’s also unique for its shatterproof plastic display.”
