Champions League Draw 2009

Filed under: Football, Sports — busterbuster @ 6:11 pm

here is the draw!

I think the weakest groups are Group G & Group H
So Arsenal looking good, even though Dutch & Turkish teams are tough

Strongest groups are likely Group D, Group E & Group A
Chelsea have Porto & Atletico Madrid, so finishing in the Top 2 will be a dogfight

Group E have Liverpool, Fiorentina & Lyon, so it will be a fight amongst mediocre teams :-)
Group A have Bayern, Juve & Bordeaux, so also tough.

First round September 15 & 16

Champions League trend since 2004 – only two Continental European teams in the finals

Filed under: Uncategorized — busterbuster @ 5:04 pm

Just saw this statistic of the past five Champions League Finals.  While there has been an English team in each of the past five finals, there have only been TWO European clubs in the finals: AC Milan (twice) and Barcelona (twice).  Why aren’t the other European teams complaining about Milan & Barcelona’s good fortunes?

2004/2005

Liverpool def AC Milan

2005/2006

Barcelona def Arsenal

2006/2007

AC Milan def Liverpool

2007/2008

Man U def Chelsea

2008/2009

Why Frozen Fruits & Vegetables can be Healthier than “Fresh” Food

Filed under: Uncategorized — busterbuster @ 7:16 pm

I just read a fascinating piece on mass produced food on HowSTuffWorks.  A few interesting excerpts below on the benefits of buying local fruits and fresh food, and for considering frozen food as well.

“Frozen…can actually be more nutritious than the fresh versions – It’s one of those rare areas where mass-production may be good for your health…because of the way the fresh-produce industry operates today.
Fresh produce travels long distances to get to market, so it’s often picked before it’s ripe lest it go rotten along the way. Since produce develops its nutrients on the tree or vine or stalk, while it’s ripening, interrupting that process also interrupts the development of all those vitamins and antioxidants.

Frozen produce, on the other hand, can be fully ripened before it’s picked since it’s getting frozen immediately afterward. There’s no worry that it’ll go bad before you can buy it. The end result is that frozen fruits and vegetables may be more nutritious than the often unripe stuff in the fresh section.

Fresh and ripe, however, is more nutritious than frozen.”

Champions League Team earning potential

Filed under: Finance, Football, Sports — Tags: — busterbuster @ 2:12 pm

From the BBC:

“Last season, clubs contesting the Champions League proper earned between £4.6m to £20.4m.
In addition, they took home a share of the £237.31m television pot and match-day income, which for the top English clubs is about £3m per match.”
